Race Report Québriac 1 Jun 2025

Wed, 04 Jun 2025, 19:11

On Sunday 1 June 2025 CCC travelled to Québriac just south of Dinan, to take part in series of races around a 4.8km closed road Circuit.

First to start was Access 3&4 in 12 Lap race. Club President John Derrien, Vice President Tony Merren and Treasurer Jon Busenal, all started well. With each lap having a prime, which was either a cash, voucher or points, the peloton accelerated on the descent before the start/Finish. This was followed by a regrouping on the next climb. John, Tony and Jon maintained good position, with Tony on the front a one stage. On the last lap Tony and John tried to move up to the front with half a lap to go, but found the route blocked as the pack spread across the road. Tony finished 25th, John 28th, and Jon 37th out of 47 who started.

Next to race in Access 1 & 2, in 13 lap race, were Pat Lempriere, Adam WoJtkiewicz, and Oliver Pinel, Oliver would have preferred to have started his first French race in Access 4, but due to his age and gender he was limited to Access 2. With Adam having previously won a race organised by the same organisers, there were high expectations, and Adam maintained a position near the front throughout the race. With Primes on most laps, it did not allow a breakaway to form, though two riders did get clear at two laps to go. Adam finished with the next bunch in 17th, and second on one of the Primes. Elsewhere in the race Pat and Oliver initially raced together in the main peloton, until Pat had cramp in his legs and retired. Oliver, who had only started road racing in 2025, with his only experience of two DIV4 races in Jersey, continued, but lost touch with the group with three laps to go and finished 44th, with around 60 in the race.

Travelling with the CCC was YA member Ollie Hamon, who is racing for CC Plancoêt in U19s, he raced in the 22 lap Open 2&3 race. Ollie met up with his fellow CCP riders before the race, and exchanged friendly banter, with number of them riding together in the race. The pace was noticeably quicker than the access races and no breakaway formed, as soon a group had a gap they were brought back. The net result was only about 50% of field finished the race, Ollie looked comfortable in the group and rode for 1.5 hours with the group and his teammates. Unfortunately, the distance of 105Km and effectively a prime on each lap, meant he could not maintain the required pace.
