CCC road racing in Brittany 21 April 2024
Over in Brittany Jay Craknall and Jack Rebours were racing for CC Plancoët (CCP) in a CCP organised road race at Saint-Pôtan. They were invited to be part of a 20 strong CCP team.
80 riders started the 120km race with a mix of first, second and third category riders attending. With 6 laps of a larger 15km circuit followed by 6 laps of a 5km finishing circuit. The main features of the larger lap were a short punchy climb and twisty narrow roads.
With a fast start and strong cross winds reduced CCP advantage of large team, as the 80 riders soon split into several groups. With CC Plancoët having a rider in the lead group Jay and Jack, did not try to bridge across, as potentially they could assist other team riders in bridging across.
With two laps to go, this was no longer an issue, and Jay decided to go on his own, initially no one followed, but on the last lap he had 2 pursuing him, Jay eased off allowing them to catch him and sheltered on their wheels until just before the finish line where he managed to out sprint them to the line.
Jack also went on his own, and managed to leave the group with Jay placing 23rd overall and Jack 26th, which was 7th and 8th in the Open 2 category they were racing in, with CC Plancoët rider Enzo Latimier 4th in the overall race.
